A "musical dialogue" is when musical passages are used as part of a larger text -- often as answers to questions from a reporter. The best-known example of this format is probably Dickie Goodman's 1975 hit single "Mr. Jaws"; I'm also rather fond of the much-less-known The Beatles at Three Mile Island (which I discovered via The Doctor Demento Show).
