Computery Stuff
- The software proceeds apace! The piece I needed most immediately (DBA, for DataBase Administrator), is now (as of yesterday) finally able to do imports (at least locally). I used it to import the VbzCart database onto my work laptop so I could get back to working on that.
- I'm setting up a replacement for Statler, our home web/file server. The first system board I tried was unhappy, so now I'm trying another one which was my main workstation for a short time, some years ago.

- Since PC008's internal hard drive had Windows 10 on it, I thought I would see if I could set up the used Neat Document Scanner I got used from Ebay -- but the setup required, for some reason, access to a web site which no longer exists in order to "register" the software (apparently owning the device isn't sufficient proof? seems more like an excuse to collect customer info for resale), and the drivers it did install wouldn't allow the Windows scanning program to talk to it. Back to trying to get it working with Linux...
- I got the Sampler gallery working again in VbzCart, after yet more extensive reworking of some underlying stuff. Hopefully this iteration of the reworking will make it possible to progress further, at long last...
Household Stuff
- We finally rented a storage unit (again)! I'm kinda excited about finally being able to clear away a lot of stuff -- mostly Mel's, but also my equipment not currently in use and also just empty boxes I've been saving against future need. The storage currently has far more space than needed, so I can just dump empty boxes there until it starts to fill up with actual inventory.
- The trigger for finally doing this, after years of almost doing it, was:
- I've been helping K (H's sister) clean out a room in her house which had been a bedroom/workroom for 3 different kids, in series, and was full of their leftover stuff (some useful, some not).
- Session 1: B & Z came with me to haul everything out and sort it into boxes in another room.
- Session 2: I pulled up enough of the carpet and under-padding to make a path through the room, from one door to the other. (Just walking across the carpet was enough to trigger K's severe allergies.)
- Session 3: Removed the rest of the carpet & padding.
- Session 4: Dismantled the loft which had been left there by renters (during the interim between H/K's grandma's tenancy and K's moving in)...
- ...and then set it up in my workroom, aka Mel's room.
- I've been helping K (H's sister) clean out a room in her house which had been a bedroom/workroom for 3 different kids, in series, and was full of their leftover stuff (some useful, some not).
Making room for the loft required moving out 2 of the shelves Mel had been using, which meant it was time to rent storage. I'll take some loft pics soon...
