Brave New World
This is the first complete song I ever wrote, circa 1982 (either at or just before Guilford College). I never recorded it because I didn't really have the equipment to do it the way I had in mind until much later, and by then I had other songs to record.
Lyrics
So many things I see incredible
I think unbelievable
As I walk down the path it's so magnificent
All these colors and shapes
My mind can't safely comprehend.
(CHORUS 1:)
It's a brave new world that has such interesting people
And life is beautiful to see
It's a brave new world that speaks of wondrous new ideas
At least it seems that way to me.
I turn to somebody and ask what time it is
He says 'all the time.'
And I say 'thanks a lot.'
Everybody seems to know where they're going to
That may be true
But do they know why...
(and they say --)
(CHORUS 2:)
It's a brave new world that has such interesting people
The battles of the world are won at home
It's a brave new world, and no one will tell you different
Whatever part of it you choose to roam.
[solo, then
C-Em-Am-C-F-Am-Dm-F-G-Bm-Em-G-C- into next chorus]
(CHORUS 3:)
It's a brave new world that has such interesting people
Won't you come and join the throng
It's a brave new world, the stars are waiting for your answer
You know that if you're right something is wrong.
I started to leave and they said 'what's wrong with you,
Where you going to?'
I started to answer that I was going home
They shook their heads at me,
And in a moment I could see...
(CHORUS 4:)
It's a brave new world that has such interesting people
My life has just begun anew
It's a brave new world, you know that if you have a problem
We'll fix whatever's bugging you.

Mrs.X: Did you see the killing today at the coliseum?
Mrs.Y: Oo! It wasn't on my video!
Mrs.X: You should try New World Network -- they covered it in 3D
with dodecaphonic sound and telepheromones!
