The words need a little work, I think... if I can think of anything better, I'll go back and re-record them. The vocals, Fender Rhodes, and drums are from a demo I recorded for MoG circa 1994, but the band broke up shortly thereafter (gee, was it that bad?) and to the best of my recollection we never even practiced the song. The artist confesses to trying to sound like Donny Hathaway(W) on the Fender Rhodes[1].

Lyrics

verse 1

Am . D . You might find I am a lamppost
Am . D . Or I might be a highway too
Am . D . I often seem to be that way when
Am . D . Skies are turning blue
A#m. D#. Through greying walls and city halls
A#m. D# E# Where words are never true
Am . D . But I'm not your chameleon
Am . D . I'll never look like you

verse 2

Am . D . You might find I am a mastermind
Am . D . Or an idiot or two
Am . D . I have always tried to want to
Am . D . Do the things you do
A#m. D#. Through greying halls and city walls
A#m. D# E# Where words will never do
Am . D . I'm just not your chameleon
Am . D . I'll never look like you

break

Am . D . (8 or so bars of instrumental)

verse 3

Am . D . I could be another question
Am . D . If the answer wasn't true
Am . D . I might be a human being
Am . D . If there was nothing else to do
A#m. D#.
A#m. D# E#
Am . D . But I'm not your chameleon
Am . D . I'll never look like you

refrain

Am . D . I'm not your chameleon
(etc.) You know I'll never look like you
Even if you thought like me
And I sounded just like you
I'm not your chameleon
Don't mind if I do
