Pre-transition I wrote: This one and Going Through the Motions were both written for female vocals. Didn't have any on hand, so had to use mine :-(. Will re-record when I have some available.

Some would argue that my vocals are female vocals because I am female (in identity if not yet legally). This gets into complicated areas of what it means for anything to "be" a particular gender... but I think I can cut through a lot of that by saying that my voice in this recording (and all of my recordings, and IRL as of this writing) isn't "me" and makes me feel dysphoric.

Hopefully something can be done about this at some point... and then there will be much re-recording of vocals.

(Note also that me-in-the-video is also pre-transition.)

Lyrics

Verse 1

Two weeks ago I saw you, I was feeling off my peak
I hope that you can help because my heart is growing weak
To get a good diagnosis, don't use that instrument on your shelf
Instead you need to look inside yourself...

Chorus 1

Don't call the doctor
I don’t need one more M.D. to write a prescription
To fix my chemistry; I just need a refill
Of your time and energy
Give it to me, give it to me...

Verse 2

In my analysis, our synthesis is taking much too long
I can’t dismiss a suspicion this hypothesis is wrong
You must grasp the subject firmly, and study her very well
Or the prize you get will simply be no belle...

Chorus 2

Don’t call the doctor
I don’t need a Ph.D. to write up a thesis
Arguing for our potency; just tell me your feelings
Let down your defense committee
Give it to me, give it to me...

Notes

  • 2006-03-26 changed verse 2 line 3 from "You must grasp the concept firmly"
  • 2012-01-27 Thought I had changed "your hypothesis" to "this hypothesis" ages ago, but apparently not; also new mix
